Million Book Read in Columbus, Georgia

VRoooom Web recently had the opportunity to participate in the Million Dollar Book Read. The event started off with a reception at the Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce in the Saunders Room. Afterwards, all of the volunteers headed to their designated school to read to the local third graders. VRoooom had the privilege of reading to the third graders at River Road Elementary.

There was an excellent turn-out of volunteers and everyone had an outstanding time.

What is the Million Book Read Program?

The Million Dollar Book Read was founded by Darrin Smith, who is a two-time NCAA National Football Champion, as well as a two-time Super Bowl champion.

This reading program is an international literacy pledge campaign designed to motivate into action adults taking time to read with children. The goal is to confirm 1 Million participants reading with kids Super Bowl XLV week.

At Super Bowl XLV, February 2011, the Million Book Read will host over 5,000 kids for a day of celebrating the joy of reading.

Any participation supports their effort to sustain the delivery of literacy programs to families of all cultures through select non-profit organizations.
